I couldn't bring up the article but, even if you had cheap rent, it might be fairly expensive
to live downtown. There's the Pike Place Market but other food stores are the small wine and
skin mag type places. I suspect finding cheap, good groceries might be a challenge.
There may be bargains downtown that I don't know about but no Target, no Kmart.
When I walk around downtown I see a lot of people who look like they are poor so I would also
wonder if there is a shortage of poor people downtown. It is, after all, inexpensive and easy
to get there unlike other shopping areas that are not the focus of the entire transit system.
Barnett probably thinks all those retail workers should live downtown.

No, I think that Barnett makes some astute remarks. Overall, the thread to which I link (in the post) has some goold discussion.
