Three questions and a striking answer.
The computer in my pocket makes me smarter in that I can access virtually all of human knowledge with a few keystrokes.Smarter? For sure? But wiser? A far more important question. So what about accessing "virtually all of human knowledge with a few keystrokes?"
Have humans gotten wiser in the last 30 thousand years? I really don't know. Judging from the world of Hitler, Stalin and Pol Pot I'd say not wiser at all. From Mandela, Churchill, or nameless thousands who do their job well, I'd say yes.
But while I do love my iPad, I don't think I am any smarter and hardly at all any wiser. Of course I have more fun than I did three months ago (before I bought an iPad.)
